Here’s my response/Critique of one of those silly Facebook/Email chain thingies that often try to make vague, unsubstantiated points, either on the right or the left:

Chain Email thingy:

1. Got Osama Bin Laden…check.
2. Unemployment rate 8.5%…check.
3. 1.6 million jobs created with no GOP help…check.
4. 22 months of job and economic growth with no help…check.
5. Ended war in Iraq…check.
6. DADT repeal…check.
7. Not one tax hike in 3 years…check.
8. Brought out the racism in the GOP…check.
9. Still carry 80% of the black vote…check.
10. Same wife for 15 years with no extra marital affairs…check.
11. Save auto industry and 1.5 million jobs…check.
12. Assisted in ousting Gaddafi…check.
13. Only active President to receive Nobel Peace prize while in office…check.
14. Mortgage modification to prevent home owners from losing their home…check.
15. STILL fighting for middle class families…check.
16. Reform Affordable healthcare…check.
Despite what the GOP would have you believe the President has been doing these things and more by himself. Obama for 2012!

My Response:

1) Lots of help from Bush’s enhanced interrogation techniques which Obama condemned, swore he’d close Guantanamo, then upheld the tragic Bush status quo. Sure, Good job.

2) There were 64.6 Million people working when he was inaugurated. That number is now ~60 Million. If the same number of jobs were available today as when he was coronated, the unemployment would be closer to 10.5%.

3) Jobs created is an awfully nebulous point of fact. I’m sure you hopped on the bandwagon criticizing Rick Perry for “creating jobs” in Texas, when in fact he can’t be held responsible for much of that. Presidents don’t create jobs, businesses do. Refer to #2.

4) Yes, unfettered and record economic growth. Also $6, maybe $7 TRILLION in debt by the time his second term rolls around. The guy WILL get re-elected. Here’s the 1/4ly growth. Not so amazing, is it?

2009 2nd Qtr: -0.7%

2009 3rd Qtr: 1.7%

2009 4th Qtr 3.8%

2010 1st Qtr: 3.9%

2010 2nd Qtr: 3.8%

2010 3rd Qtr: 2.5%

2010 4th Qtr: 2.3%

2011 1st Qtr: 0.4%

2011 2nd Qtr: 1.3%

5) Also in part thanks to Bush’s “surge” he authorized before he left. The wars are dumb anyway, he also started conflict in Libya, is starting more in other countries, is sending military aid to numerous countries.

6) Fantastic. No complaints.

7) Oh how wrong you are, there are dozens, if not hundreds of tax increases. Have you heard him give a speech? In every one he wants to raise taxes. It makes sense though, the top 1% pay 40% of all income taxes already, the Not to mention $40 BILLION in regulatory costs increase this year alone. He’s signed fewer than Bush, but much more impacting regulatory code. Not all of it entirely his, much of it is automatic from the bureaucracy.

8) Maybe you should read a history book. The GOP is the only party in history to have never had an explicitly racist platform. For DECADES democrats campaigned on anti-civil rights, pro-slavery, lasting into the 1960’s and 1970’s. A democrat, Robert Byrd, held the longest filibuster in the senate by filibustering the Civil Rights act of 1965. JFK even delayed desegregation bills for months and months at a time.

9) He was elected with 90% of the black vote, why did he lose 10%? If that’s not brainwashing, or enslavement to one party I don’t know what is.

10) Something like half the country has had a divorce. most people don’t care because they’re paying alimony and child support too.

11) Saved it? GM is still broke, the stock needs to double to break even for the tax payers, the Volt has been a massive failure, at $250,000+ each in cost to tax payers to produce a $40,000 car that’s also subsidized by a number of other subsidies from yours and my paychecks.

12) Fantastic. Now how much did this cost? How many U.S. soldiers had to die for this? I’m all for Gadaffi dying, he’s evil. But was it our place to do so?

13) I remember when he got that: When he received the prize, Obama had not ended either the war in Iraq, as promised. He had not closed Guantanamo Bay, as promised. He has not ended the military tribunals, he once stopped. And he did not end the Patriot Act he once said he would vote to repeal. He did, however, launched 122 missiles into Libya in ONE WEEKEND. So much for Peace. Perhaps this is what the Nobel Committee was thinking of when they said Obama makes extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and what Obama took as a call to action? I guess starting conflicts in multiple countries instead of ending conflicts in multiple countries is what’s considered peaceful to the Nobel panel. Also, remember that Yassir Arafat received a Nobel peace Prize as well. LOL. Credibility much? Someone was is easily responsible for the deaths of thousands of women and children.

14) Don’t like the deal? Don’t sign on the dotted line. Putting people into homes they couldn’t afford is bad. Not to mention the bubble was promulgated by mortgage interest deductions, property tax deductions, absurdly and artificially low interest rates, etc all inflate home prices. We just inflated home prices too much which reduces home ownership. Instead of lowering home prices, we should steal money from one group to give it to another. Home prices are inflated by the government and the dumb people who started to think buying a home was a quick way to make money. Bankers and investors (like me) alike.

15) Who isn’t fighting for the middle class? It’s campaign rhetoric, nothing more.

16) Since Obama Care was enacted healthcare is more expensive. Health insurance premiums for employer-provided coverage ā€“ the most common type ā€“ have been rising at a steady rate of about 5 percent each year. This year, however, that rate jumped to 9 percent for family coverage and 8 percent for single coverage.

17) Bush was awful, Obama is worse. I didn’t think it was possible. Give me Clinton back. At least I believed him when he said he wanted free markets and freedom.
