AT&T is a misleading sack of rocks. AT&T is currently vying for purchase of T-Mobile, one of the cheapest wireless providers there are. AT&T has a chart on their website claiming that prices of cell service has fallen over the last 10 years thanks to mergers like AT&T and Cingular, Verizon and ALLTEL. In truth, the market is extremely complicated as can be expected. An FCC report totaling 181 pages found that competition likely had a large role in reducing cell service costs for consumers. In 2000, only 97 Million people in the U.S. had cell phones. Today, that number is closer to 300 Million. Seems like a pretty competitive market to me.  In other words, competition has driven down prices, not capitalization of the market.
